NWPC organizes Advanced Course on Labor Economics for Commissioners and Board Members

The NWPC held the second leg of the Advanced Course on Labor Economics on April 21–24, 2025 in Tagaytay City.

The ACLE was organized to strengthen the capacity of NWPC commissioners and Regional Board members in labor market analysis and policy framework towards improved wage governance.

Experts from the University of the Philippines School of Economics, including Dr. Emmanuel Esguerra, Dr. Karl Robert Jandoc, and Mr. Ian Nicole Generalao served as resource persons. They were joined by Ms. Irene Jo Arzadon from The World Bank, Mr. Vince Jerald Ramos from the University of Southampton via Zoom platform, and Department of Economy, Planning and Development Undersecretary Rosemarie G. Edillon.

The four-day training focused on fundamental labor market concepts, analytical and empirical methodologies, as well as contemporary labor market and strategic issues on wages.

DOLE Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma, in his video message, emphasized the importance of providing policymakers and decision-makers with necessary knowledge and skills.

“Sa harap ng iba’t ibang hamon sa ating ekonomiya, at mga pagbabago sa larangan ng paggawa, mahalaga na bigyan natin ng sapat na kaalaman at at kasanayan ang ating mga tagapagpatupad ng polisiya at mga tagapagpasiya upang mas epektibo at mahusay nilang matugunan at magampanan ang kani-kanilang mga manadato,” DOLE Sec. Laguesma said.

NWPC Executive Director Maria Criselda R. Sy in her closing remarks said that the next step after all the ACLE activities is the capacity building for data crunching for better implementation of all information acquired during ACLE.

 

The ACLE is a follow-up training after the Basic Course on Labor Economics in 2023.

The first leg of ACLE was held on March 17–20, 2025 in Bacolod City, and the third and final leg is slated within the second quarter of 2025.
