July 7, 2025

The RTWPB-VII joined a multi-sectoral dialogue conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VII, Technical Services and Support Division – Labor Relations Section on 20 June 2025 in Cebu City.

Atty. Evita G. Mendoza-Balane and Atty. Jess Russell F. Jumalon shared their expertise on wage determination process and introduced the mandates of the board provided under Republic Act No. 6727 or the Wage Rationalization Act of 1989.

The multi-sectoral dialogue was attended by around 50 participants who are members of their different sectors, including the Chamber of Commerce, management representatives, leaders of labor organizations, and other government agencies who are instrumental in maintaining industrial peace throughout the region.

Atty. Roy L. Buenafe, DOLE RO VII Regional Director and RTWPB-VII Chairperson, initiated the lead as the presiding officer of the dialogue among the different groups. He graced a significant move towards holistic problem-solving and inclusive governance through multi-sectoral dialogues which are increasingly becoming a cornerstone of development initiatives across the Philippines, including in Cebu.

During the open forum, query regarding the hot issue on P200 wage hike proposal approved by the House of Representatives was raised. This issue was collectively discussed by the respective leaders of each sector, and the parameters were explained by no less than the RTWPB-VII Chairperson Atty. Buenafe.

Atty. Buenafe said that the collaborative forum brings together diverse stakeholders – from government agencies, civil society organizations, private sector entities and local communities – to address complex challenges and exchange views on the latest issues related to the proposed wage hike bill which has already been considered as lapsed by Congress.
