MSME Spotlight

Achieving productivity through Work Ethics

October 20, 2025

The Prime Seller Marketing began with modest operations but with an ambitious vision. The company steadily grew from a small, close-knit team into a well-organized and systematic enterprise, expanding its services and opening more opportunities for both employees and clients.

Like many micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the road to success was not without challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was absenteeism and tardiness among employees. These attendance issues greatly affected productivity-delaying tasks, straining the rest of the team, and compromising service quality. Management knew a long-term solution was needed.

The turning point came when Prime Seller Marketing became a beneficiary of the Follow-the-Firm Program of the RTWPB-V (Bicol) where they were introduced to various productivity trainings. However, one in particular made a lasting impact, which is the “Work Ethics: Loving Your Job” training.

“This training helped us see the root cause of our attendance and discipline problems,” says Ms. Shayene Rivera, Human Resource Head. With the guidance of RTWPB V, the company implemented a Productivity-Based Incentive Scheme (PBIS) where employees with perfect attendance and no tardiness receive five kilos of rice each month as a reward.

The results were remarkable – absenteeism and tardiness dropped by nearly 90%. “It made a huge difference in our daily operations and gave our people a real boost in motivation,” she added.

The company’s dedication to improving productivity and workplace discipline eventually earned them national recognition. In 2023, Prime Seller Marketing was awarded as National Winner in the Service Sector-Medium Category at the Productivity Olympics.

The HR Head credits RTWPB-V for their invaluable support, from documentation and coaching to preparation for the national stage.

Beyond productivity, the company also prioritizes compliance and worker safety. As a beneficiary of DOLE’s Labor Standards and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) trainings, Prime Seller Marketing ensures a safe and compliant workplace, reflecting their belief that employee well-being is a cornerstone of business success.

For the HR Head, one of the most rewarding outcomes is seeing the positive transformation among employees. What started as a simple rice incentive became a powerful motivator — fostering discipline, consistency, and enthusiasm for work.

Prime Seller Marketing’s journey is proof that with the right guidance, commitment, and innovation, MSMEs can overcome challenges and achieve excellence.
