Employee engagement as key of Caraga’s long standing chain of hotels

July 8, 2025

Almont Inland Resort began its journey in 1983 as Almont City Hotel, founded by the Montalban-Alegrado family. What started as a small hotel eventually grew with the opening of Almont Inland Resort — the first inland resort in Butuan City.

The resort was built in response to the need for a convention center in the area. It expanded further with the establishment of Almont Beach Resort in Surigao, with plans to expand further in the near future.

In today’s competitive landscape, Almont continues to stand strong. It is gradually upgrading its facilities and keeping up with modern trends to maintain its edge in the region. It recently added more rooms to accommodate growing number of guests and established a dedicated marketing team to actively promote its services.

Almont recognizes that investing on employees’ skills and productivity is vital in the service industry. And with the help and intervention of RTWPB-Caraga, Almont has thrived in the market.

RTWPB-Caraga has been a long-time partner of Almont in providing free productivity trainings under the Productivity Toolbox, such as the 7S of Good Housekeeping, Service Quality and Green Productivity training.

The Productivity Toolbox offers learning and development through training interventions designed to support MSMEs in adopting systems and technology to improve productivity. These trainings are offered for free by the regional boards to enterprises, especially micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Through RTWPB-Caraga training programs, Almont’s employees gained new knowledge and techniques in providing excellent service to their guests. The training has been mostly helpful in improving their housekeeping practices, and in introducing them to sustainable methods such as optimizing their resources, reducing waste, and enhancing energy efficiency.

Almont Inland Resort received numerous awards from RTWPB-Caraga and was recognized as a National Finalist during the National Productivity Olympics in 2019.

Almont has also been consistently acknowledged as a top resort in the Caraga Region. Its success is partly attributed to the huge role played by RTWPB-Caraga. Through the DOLE Adjustment Measures Program (DOLE-AMP), Almont received a grant for the improvement of its cafeteria — creating a better workspace for its employees and allowing it to provide excellent service to customers.

The DOLE-AMP offers funding to reduce or mitigate the vulnerability of workers and enterprises from economic disruptions.
