The National Wages and Productivity Commission holds a National Productivity Conference every two years to serve as a platform for information and ideas exchange on new and emerging events and issues affecting the country’s productivity and competitiveness. Through the years, the conference has helped raise awareness on the importance of productivity and competitiveness to the country’s economic growth. Relevant studies and papers of experts and practitioners from industry, academe and government agencies are presented and discussed, providing the Commission and the Boards directions for research, policy and program review and development.

Unlocking enterprise and workers’ productivity is among the strategic approaches to facilitate the transition to the new normal and enhance business performance and competitiveness to sustain and expand the operations of the businesses. The effects of the pandemic have increased the gig economy’s popularity and paved the way for flexible work to become available in different industries. This phenomenon raises concerns about keeping freelancers engaged as they have limited interpersonal interactions to build and sustain working relationships with their colleagues.
This session will discuss worker engagement as one of the identified strategies to sustain employment for full-time employees and freelancers and its role to encourage long-term productivity, taking into consideration that gig economy is a factor in higher employment opportunities and workplace productivity.

This session will look into how worker engagement practices toward workplace productivity is sustained through the establishment of rewards and recognition systems. Tied with an effective performance review system, the rewards system proves that workers are noticed and their efforts make a difference. Enhancing productivity incentive programs that are valuable to employees will optimize support from the workers and will result to business success.
Worker engagement is a critical driver of company success to boost productivity among workers. Worker engagement and productivity go hand in hand. When the former is addressed, the latter gets taken care of. Through this session, businesses can adopt innovative practices to keep their workers engaged.

Employee and labor relations play a vital role in employee retention and motivation in strengthening the employee and employer relationship. The real challenge to worker engagement is during times when uncertainties are high. Specifically, workers were introduced to new work set-up such as remote and telecommuting which are among the contributing factors in sustaining worker engagement.
This session will discuss how management and labor play active roles in creating a harmonious workplace and work culture that influence the productivity and performance of the workers. Strengthening employee and labor relations not only improves worker engagement but also leads to a successful establishment.
This year, the NWPC will hold its biennial National Productivity Conference through a multi-part series via zoom. Our theme, “Driving Productivity in the Better Normal” will give emphasis to ongoing initiatives to mitigate the effects of pandemic and to leverage the opportunities that this crisis offers to create a better, safer, more productive and resilient new normal.
Under this theme, we have lined up webinars, every Thursday 10:00 AM from September 3 to November 5, on national development plans for a more resilient Philippines, impact of the pandemic on the world of work, policy and program responses to leverage opportunities post pandemic, enterprise-level adjustments to the new normal such as through automation, technology-enabled solutions and the application of actionable intelligence.
