Public consultations in Catanduanes, Masbate set tone for possible wage increase in Bicol

February 20, 2026

Public consultations held in Catanduanes and Masbate, on January 30 and February 13, 2026 respectively, have laid the groundwork for a potential minimum wage adjustment in the Bicol Region, following active and balanced participation from both labor and management sectors.

The consultations resulted in clear, constructive inputs from stakeholders, reflecting the respective positions of workers and employers on the proposed wage increase.

DOLE Regional Director and RTWPB-V Chairperson Imelda F. Gatinao commended the openness demonstrated by both labor and management sectors during the consultations. “This demonstrates the strength of social dialogue and tripartism in the region,” said Gatinao.

Labor Representative Dante L. Encinas noted that the discussions provided labor sector participants with ample opportunity to present their concerns and recommendations. Management Sector Representative Romy S. Tan likewise lauded the transparent and orderly conduct of the meetings, which he said helped foster a shared understanding of the issues raised.

Meanwhile, additional public consultations are scheduled to further ensure broad stakeholder participation. These will be held on February 18, 2026, in Daet, Camarines Sur, and on February 20, 2026, in Sorsogon City. Stakeholders from both sectors are encouraged to actively participate in the upcoming consultations.

To ensure wider stakeholder participation, additional public consultations have been scheduled in other provinces on:

  • February 18, 2026 – Daet, Camarines Norte
  • February 20, 2026 – Sorsogon City

Stakeholders from both labor and management are encouraged to attend and present their positions.

The outcomes of the completed and upcoming consultations will serve as key inputs in the Region’s policy discussions and decision-making processes, particularly on the matter of a possible wage increase for Bicol’s private sector workers. (Rizza Jane Z. Deblois)
