The RTWPB-X joined the bamboo tree planting initiative of the DOLE – Regional Office 10 on May 8, 2025 to support the Lumad communities in Misamis Oriental.
A total of 2,000 bamboo seedlings were planted at the Department of Agricultural Research Center for Hillyland Development in Brgy. Lanise, Claveria, Misamis Oriental. The activity is part of Project Alima, which supports displaced and vulnerable workers in the region.
Project Alima is one of the enrolled projects under the Northern Mindanao Project Portfolio on Productivity Initiative for workers and enterprises. The project seeks to empower and uplift their communities by ensuring their active participation in the labor market. The project aims to address the needs of indigenous peoples (IPs) through the integration of three key government programs – the Government Internship Program (GIP), Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantage/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), and DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).
The beneficiaries of Project Alima are expected to manage, as part of their post-training enterprise ventures, the bamboo plantations. Through the project, they will also receive skills training, livelihood starter kits, and reintegration support.
The tree planting initiative was organized with the help of the Department of Agriculture – Region 10 and other members of the Regional Coordinating Council of Northern Mindanao.
RTWPB-X Chairperson and DOLE Region 10 Director Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao emphasized the importance of bamboo in promoting both ecological resilience and sustainable livelihoods. “This tree planting activity is not just ceremonial. It symbolizes growth, renewal, ad our collective commitment to a greener future,” said Atty. Suyao.
RTWPB-X staff were present during the event.
