Southwest Travel & Tours: Driving Productivity and Excellence in Western Visayas

Southwest Travel & Tours has established itself as one of the most trusted transport operators in Western Visayas, known for providing efficient and convenient public transportation for both domestic and foreign tourists. The company prioritizes comfort and safety on every trip to various tourist destinations in the region. Currently employing over 500 workers, this rapidly expanding Ilonggo brand operates in four major regions across the country.

As noted by Ms. Ronalyn C. Horbino, the manager of the Iloilo branch, Southwest Tours, Inc. has actively participated in RTWPB-VI’s Productivity Toolbox trainings. This involvement stemmed from the recognition of the need to upskill their employees and enhance business competitiveness, particularly during the temporary closure of Boracay Island, one of their primary service locations.

“Southwest Tours learned about the training programs offered by RTWPB-VI when they provided transportation services for the Board. This sparked their interest in the types of training conducted and the topics covered. They then inquired about the possibility of attending these training sessions. Since then, they have participated in various training programs, including the 7S of Good Housekeeping, Service Quality, and Ethics of a Productive Worker,” Ms. Horbino shared in an interview.

Understanding the value of employees and the importance of equipping them with essential tools to boost productivity, Southwest Tours, Inc. participated in training sessions focused on the 7S of Good Housekeeping and Work Ethics.

These training sessions played a crucial role in aligning the company’s goals with its business culture, facilitating workplace systematization, and promoting ethical work principles. This effort has fostered a more productive work environment.

The 7S of Good Housekeeping has significantly improved their everyday operations, especially in maintaining quality standards in their services and ensuring employee safety. This training introduces a workplace organization method consisting of different approaches to maintain a tidy, clutter-free work area that fosters efficiency and improves productivity.

On December 9, 2024, Southwest Travel & Tours received three awards from the Department of Tourism (DOT): the Valued Tourism Partner Award, the Tourism Champion Award (under the Tourism Industry Skills Program), and the Philippine Tourism Award. These awards recognize their active support of the tourism industry in the country. While they have not yet participated in the Productivity Olympics, there may be opportunities to do so in the future.
